The thought of doing a boudoir photography session can be scary. My team and I understand the nerves that come with committing to an empowerment and boudoir photography session because we have all been through the experience ourselves. I get asked many of the same questions from my clients going into this experience. So, I wanted to compile a list of some of the most frequently asked questions to give you some insight and what preparing for a CRAVE Experience looks like.
Do you share images publicly?
Our top priority is ensuring our clients are comfortable.CRAVE is just as much a life-changing experience as a vulnerable one. Sometimes, our clients are learning how to love their bodies, and they aren’t quite ready to share the images with the world. Sometimes, these photos are specifically for a spouse or partner and aren’t for anyone else’s eyes. Or maybe you’re on a career path that would make you feel uncomfortable if your colleagues or clients could view your personal photos. Whether or not you want to share your photos publicly is based on your preference. At the end of your experience, I will have you fill out a photo release that I keep in your file as a reference. You can specify whether you would like to share all photos, no photos, or only specific photos. It is 100% up to you!
Do I have to wear lingerie?
Our CRAVE Sessions are not about lingerie or wearing any one type of clothing. A typical boudoir session tends to be thought of as a lingerie photo shoot. I prefer to refer to our CRAVE Experiences as empowerment photography instead of “boudoir” since the term boudoir can limit the experience to a specific category. We will tailor your session to you and discuss what makes you feel confident. We’ll work together to create a look that reflects your preferences, even if it means skipping lingerie.
Do you have payment plans?
I offer a payment plan option through PayPal Credit. It is a financing option that allows for 0% for six months. There is a retainer fee to book and reserve your session date. I require a minimum artwork purchase that is due on or before your session date. Let me know if you want to set this up when you book your session.
Is hair and makeup included?
Hair and makeup are included in all of our CRAVE Sessions. Regardless of whether you prefer to do your own hair and/or makeup, I think it’s really important for you to feel pampered through this experience; having your hair and makeup done is a great way to do that. Our team with work with you, one-on-one, to help you create a personalized look that makes you feel confident. You can bring any ideas you want for your hair and makeup, and we can use it all for inspiration.
Do you edit my photos?
Part of accepting and loving yourself involves embracing all parts of yourself, even the ones you don’t like. If there are parts of yourself that you don’t love or aren’t thrilled about, that’s okay! I edit and retouch each photo to balance highlights and shadows. However, most of the magic actually happens during the photo shoot, including hair and makeup, final outfit selection, photo composition, posing, and studio lighting.
Where should I buy my outfits?
There are plenty of places to buy outfits, and it depends on what you are getting and the style of your shoot. Whenever you’re shopping, I always suggest choosing retailers with a fantastic return policy and speedy shipping. This way, you can take your time trying on your purchases and send them back if they don’t work out. Don’t stress, shopping should be fun! My go-to suggestion is Amazon.com. But many other sites like Target.com, Torrid.com, HipsandCurves.com, etc. If you need help shopping, please let me know. I can point you in the right direction or connect you with our fashion coach, who can shop for you one-on-one.
What type of print products do you have?
We offer a variety of luxury products, statement pieces, and items like our brag books and a retro viewfinder that make great gifts. Our most popular products are Italian leather albums and Portrait Boxes with individually matted prints. These allow our clients to take home a large selection of their favorite photos. In addition, our clients are all printing framed artwork or metal float mount prints so they can see their favorite photo or two when they start and finish their day. It’s a daily reminder that this experience completely changed their self-image.
Do you offer digitals?
All of our albums, portrait boxes, and wall art come with digital copies of what you choose to print. In addition, you can also purchase individual digital photos, digital slideshows, or the entire gallery of digital photos if you’d like. All digital photos are delivered in a password-protected online gallery.
I’m freaking out. How can I calm my nerves?
Nerves are a normal part of the experience. You would be unique if you weren’t the slightest bit nervous. Like anything else you get nervous or anxious about, you focus on taking one step at a time. One thing you can do to keep the excitement ahead of those nerves is to focus on putting together a playlist that we can jam out to during your session. When I feel nervous about something, I find that talking to my biggest cheerleaders (family or friends) can help root me on. Of course, if you need more help settling those nerves, contact us! Our CRAVE Team is amazing. We have all been through this experience, so we know exactly what feelings you may be having. We are here to support you. Just think about how proud of yourself you will be for going through with this.
Should I get to my session early?
It doesn’t hurt to plan on arriving 10 minutes early. These few extra minutes will allow you to unpack your outfits and chat about them before getting in the hair and makeup chair and getting started.
Where is your studio located?
We have two locations: one in Bellingham, WA, and one in Flagstaff, AZ. Both studios are located on my personal property and have plenty of variety for props, scenes, and settings.
